  • Time…

    Childhood love flits in the memories of my heart like butterflies
    22.5″x35.75″
    Acrylic on Plywood with Texturing

    We’ve been working on the house trying to get it safe and happy for a more mobile baby and my laptop is currently in a difficult spot for me to sit and type and read. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit around as much… I’m dying to get around and see what everyone’s up to… But that is the way it is right now.

    In the meantime, I’ve been meditating on memories of childhood love… before bills and schedules and all that.

    I also just finished reading @plantinthewindow‘s latest book.
    I took my sweet time with it because I do find it so exquisite… a meditation on the joys and agonies and joys again in human life – uncomplicated and unchanged by the passing of time and corporeal decay… but also shaded by the same.
    I am greatly hoping I can find the time to write a nice scholarly paper about it. I know it’s not in the style a lot of people read for “fun”… I can’t imagine reading Game of Thrones of Shades of Grey (guessing I got those titles right). My education in literature has made “candy books” difficult for me to get interested in. I would like to see John’s work get the recognition I believe it deserves as a truly masterful piece! Also meditating on how to make that happen.

    Gotta run for now – baby calls
    As always with love
    Onward and upward

  • Lovely painting!

  • i love this painting.  i’d better read john’s book before you write about it.  i soaked in the covers and paper and font and am waiting for exactly the right frame of mind to read it.

  • I like the painting. Careful, I criticized Fifty Shades the other day and got slammed!

  • I’m really liking this particular piece. Hmmmm… Maybe too much…..

    On a side note, husband and I are having his daughter and family visit us from Phoenix over Easter holiday. They have two little boys. As in, a 4-5 yr old, and not quite 2 yr old. I’m trying to decide if I need to child proof the house so stuff doesn’t get broken and what not…

  • @armnatmom - heh. yes. the answer to whether or not to childproof. yes ;)

  • i love this one, too. hence my sharing on f.b.  ^_^    the J-one is quite the poetic one ;)

  • This is a beautiful painting!  I love it, muchly.

    And thank you for such kind words regarding the book.  : )

  • I love this one. And it is rather nostalgic for me. These are the colors and shapes of my childhood. I’m impressed at how your creativity is on the pulse of… well, at least me.

  • beautiful painting! i like your texturing style – it really engages the eyes!

  • Onward and upward, indeed! I like the range of colours in this painting. And I’m glad you enjoyed that book. =)

  • Wistful, dreamy, evocative.

  • @Ampbreia - Thank you!
    @promisesunshine - It will be challenging for me to get a couple hours to properly write about it… It is a piece worth savoring! The best piece of writing I’ve digested in a long while!
    @whyzat - I’m not scared lol. I know very little about the popular literature. I’m a big ol’ dork heh…
    @armnatmom - Yes. Child proof lol… If for no other reason than your own piece of mind. I’m glad you like the painting :) Mother’s Day is coming up hehehe… and Valentine’s!
    @Bels_Kaylar - Thank you muchly :)
    @plantinthewindow - Just plain ol’ honest :)
    @BoureeMusique - Thank you! I think I’m getting more comfortable with being loose and gestural. It’s been a long journey.
    @l0311879l - Thank you very much! I wish it were easier to represent on a computer screen!
    @nov_way - Thank you very much!
    @Inciteful - mmmmmm. Thank you!

  • Funny… I never paint like this painting but I do feel like this painting at times….

  • Hello Starr, the blooms in this pic are so reminiscent of butterflies … it’s beautiful. and as for 50 shades, and G of T, the former I dismissed as poorly written porn and the latter I took on holiday last year I confess I love a little historical magical realism from time to time I had forgotten how much your beauty and gentleness enthuses your writing. It is deep and delicate; like you. x

  • @Bapspal - You are so kind! I do love good magical realism myself – Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Salman Rushdie are my favorites. Do you hang out on any other sites where we might be able to connect more often? I miss you :)

  • @oceanstarr - when i was eighteen I read One Hundred Years of Solitude for the first time. It was my most favourite book for the longest time, and still holds a very dear place in my heart. I remember that I went from not being able to put it down to putting it down 15 pages before the end and weeping inconsolably, because it was about to finish and a chasm was about to open up in my life. I had never read anything like it, nor ever will again I believe. I am also on FB, along with Leonides and Sci-fi Knitter. Are you? x

  • @Bapspal - I had the same feeling when I was coming to the end of 100 Years of Solitude!  I am on FB too – I’m Starr Cline there.
